Individual bag containing a trap, wire support for hanging and two gummed bottoms with grid
Use
For monitoring butterflies/moths and winged males of the mealybug, inside or outside the greenhouse. The trap can also be used for the massive capture of insects, its use being totally innocuous as there is no direct contact with plants, animals or people.
Amount to use
- 2-4 traps per hectare for each expected type of butterfly/moth
- For mealybugs use 1 trap every 500 - 1000m²
Procedure
Assemble the desired number of pheromone traps as described under 'assembly'. Hang the traps in places that allow regular inspection (e.g. along corridors). Distribute the traps as evenly as possible over the area, in order to avoid interference.
The trap is normally placed one meter above the ground or on top of the crop depending on the type of crop and the pest to be treated. It is used with a single-use rubberized bottom, in which the corresponding pheromone is glued (not included with the trap, it must be ordered separately).
Assembly
Fold the delta trap into a triangle. Thread the metal suspension wire through the two holes at the top of the delta trap and fold the two edges together. Attach a sticky strip to the bottom of the trap, sticky side up. Fold both edges at the base of the triangle inward. Hang the trap in an appropriate location.
Pheromones are chemical substances released into the air by insects, which are specifically taken up by other insects of the same species. We use these compounds (usually produced by females) to attract insects (males) and prevent females from copulating and laying eggs on the flowers. These eggs are the ones that later become caterpillars that feed on plant material (leaves and flowers). Each pest has its biological cycle and a number of generations per year, therefore it is necessary to know exactly in each area, what are the moments in which the pest is active in the adult state and the different generations, which are usually variable depending on of the temperatures of the habitat where they are found.
Pheromones must be replaced every 30 days and must be handled with gloves and stored in the refrigerator until use.
The advantages of using pheromones and traps are the following:
- Pheromones are completely harmless to humans and domestic animals
- They are used to detect pest infections early
- They respect the biological balance of crops
- They do not contain toxic residues to food or the environment
- They do not generate resistance in pests
- They optimize the application of phytosanitary products, reducing the cost.
