The Scotch Bonnet hot pepper in seed format is now available. Also known as Panamanian, this chile has attributes very similar to the Habanero, of which we also have seeds by the way, of the Habanero Red, the Habanero Orange and the Habanero Chocolate. A curiosity is the origin of the name since it comes from its resemblance to Scottish berets.
Its resemblance to the Habanero is also maintained in its spiciness, very similar with 100,000-350,000 UCS (Scoville Heat Units, the measure by which spiciness is quantified), about ten times the spiciness of the Jalapeño.
This spicy chili is one of the most used in cooking, especially in traditional Jamaican jerk cuisine, where its powerful fruity flavor, reminiscent of apricot, gives dishes the distinctive flavor that characterizes them. In other areas where it is part of your kitchen, it is usually used for sauces or as a condiment, both fresh, dried or canned.
Cultivation of hot peppers is generally not complicated, its primary needs are the absence of cold and plenty of hydration. This particular variety is tall, easily reaching 130 cm when ripe. Its germination is usually done indoors at the end of February or the beginning of March, depending on the last frosts, since you have to wait for them to pass.
The best thing to do is, as soon as they have 5 knots, take out the specimens during the day until the minimum temperature does not drop below 10 degrees. At that time they can be transplanted abroad, where, as already mentioned, their greatest demand is hydration; watering every 2-3 days will be enough.
